Serena Williams Praised for Candor About Difficulties of Flying with 1-Year-Old Daughter

Serena Williams may be a titan on the tennis court, but that doesn’t mean she’s got everything together. The first-time mom to 1-year-old Olympia Ohanian made it clear in a new Instagram post that flying with a baby is not easy, and she called out for some assistance on how to get things running smoothly.

“#thismama is tired. Flying with the little one is really a test,” Williams admitted on the social media website Saturday, Oct. 13. “#thismama really needs tips. There is nothing I do that seems to work. I don’t want her to use a ipad. Any suggestions? #thismama.”

It took no time for fans to offer some unique suggestions.

“Wrap up some of her favorite small toys in wrapping paper and have her unwrap them throughout the flight.”

“Baby rubrics cube … Est-Sketch big Simon says …”

“Painters tape. You can stick and unstick it to you, her, the window, the seat. It’s provided help for us on long flights.”

“Let her pull out an entire box of tissues. Any container-like thing she can put things in and take them out.”

But the 23-time Grand Slam winner’s post also got praise for being so candid about her struggles.

“@serenawilliams that’s a #Beautiful #Refreshingly #Honest post x.”

“Love your honesty and dedication to your child to ask for suggesting ❤️👑💪🏽”

“It’s so sweet and real for you to share your experiences. I’m sure mothers (& aunts like me) around the world from all kinds of backgrounds can relate. You are appreciated! 😘”

“Hi @serenawilliams I love your honesty. Traveling with kids can be tough. I am a international flight attendant and a mum x I share my travel with Kids tips on my blog. I hope it helps. Jade x”

Williams welcomed Olympia with husband and Reddit co-founder turned venture capitalist Alexis Ohanian in Sept. 2017.
