Venisha Brown, a daughter of the iconic singer James Brown, has passed away at the age of 53.
Brown passed on Wednesday in Augusta, Georgia, at ugusta University Health Medical Center. The James Brown Foundation released a statement that said she died due to complications from pneumonia.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the singer-songwriter was very active in the foundation and will be remembered as “one who fully embodied the dance moves of her father.”
Her father, the “Godfather of Soul,” died on Christmas Day 2006. Her mother Yvonne Fair, a singer like her father, died in 1994 at the age of 51.
Venisha’s half-sister Yamma Brown shared the death of her sister on Instagram yesterday. Her caption said, “My beautiful big sis Venisha has received her angels wings…my heart is broken but I am comforted by the peace you now have!!! I love you sis 💔”
Many of Yamma’s fans gave the family their condolences.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils, a “musical, instrumental, initiative year-round educational hub designed for the youth to discover their musical ability.”
