Long Island Woman Charged After Fabricating Story of Being Heckled, Harassed by Teen Trump Supporters

A Long Island woman is facing charges after police say she concocted a story about being heckled by a group of teenage Trump supporters who shouted at her and told her to leave the country.

Adwoa Lewis, 19, told police she was driving home Sept. 2 when four teens confronted her, yelled “Trump 2016!” and stated that “she didn’t belong here,” according to NBC New York. Lewis said she woke up the next morning to discover her tire had been slashed.

Moreover, the young woman said she found a nasty note near her parked Toyota Prius that read, “Go home.”

Nassau County police Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun said they initially investigated the incident as a possible hate crime. After a thorough investigation, however, police said they determined the alleged “attack” never happened. Lewis later confessed to making the entire thing up, adding that she had written the note herself and placed in on her car.

Lewis has since been charged with making a false punishable written statement and was arrested and released after receiving a notice to appear, authorities said. Her first court date is scheduled for Sept. 24.
