Migos rapper Quavo is one of several performers name-dropped on Nicki Minaj’s newest album “Queen,” and he isn’t bothered by her reference to a reported semi-love triangle they were involved in.
Minaj referenced a reported relationship Quavo had with actress Karrueche Tran last year, despite the “Claws” star denying she was with the MC. Then, when Quavo and Minaj were seen together at a Coachella afterparty this year, rumors swirled that they were an item, too.
As such, Minaj’s “Barbie Dreams” bar about her and Quavo came to be.
“Somebody go and make sure Karrueche OK though/I heard she think I’m tryna’ give the coochie to Quavo,” she rapped.
But when Quavo was asked about the lyrics while on Hot 97, he took it all in stride.
“Yeah, I laughed, yeah, it was funny,” he says during the Monday, August 27, chat. “I guess I’m surprised as the rest of y’all. I heard the album before it dropped, but I ain’t hear that record. But yeah she dope, the album was fire.”
When fans listened to the album, they sounded off on their thoughts on the track.
“Barbie Dreams is the kind of song that reminds me of ROMAN. Nicki speaks facts and jokes about other dudes. She talks about Drake, Meek Mill, DJ Khalid, Future, Quavo, Young Thug…. 10/10 KILL IT.”
“I rate that Barbie Dreams track hahaha Nicki got some nice wordplay in there 🙌🏻 the bars for 50 [Cent], Quavo, Meek and Khaled are hard 😂.”
“Nicki had to have been sitting on ‘Barbie Dreams’ for a minute. ‘Cause wasn’t Karrueche and Quavo a thing like a year ago? Or longer than that?”
But for those thinking the song is a diss track, Minaj cleared that up in a tweet the week of the album’s release.
“I only mentioned people in #BarbieDreams that I f*k with,” she said. “This isn’t a diss. Yikes. This is culture, this is BIGGIE!!!!! New York!!!! This is FUN. Light-hearted fun, FUN.”
