TLC’s Chilli Gets Skewered for Encouraging Black Women to be ‘Open’ to Dating Outside Their Race

Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas told a magazine that she thinks women should open themselves up to dating outside of their race and now the community has dug into her.

Thomas spoke to Essence magazine last week and explained that she’s not just going to date Black men.

“I want for women — especially for women of color — to not be so closed minded when it comes to love,” she said. “God made all of us and you may not find your husband because you’re trying to stick to one group. You’ve got to be open. You want the person who’s the best person for you, no matter what color he is.”

Chilli, who rose to fame as one-third of the girl group TLC, added she’s seeing a certain fella at the moment “but we’re testing the waters.”

“He is not Black,” she added.

The star’s remarks, however, have not sat well with some. And online commenters have wasted little time going after her for her stance.

“No, and thank you! I’ll stick to Black men for 2000 on the daily double Alex!”

“Another one with the Willie Lynch syndromes do you…a lot of us still love our BlackBerry juice…”

“These old buzzards think they can opt out of blackness but they’ll be sadly mistaken in the long run.”

“Nothing wrong with dating who you want. My problem is every time somebody gets something different, they start bashing or throwing shade and ish…just be happy and do you…”

“Ain’t nobody checking for this s— and ain’t nobody on Chilli either, she can gon somewhere with that propaganda bs.”
