Angela Bassett Says She Doesn’t Know How to Respond to Backhanded Compliment ‘You Look Good’ for Your Age

Angela Bassett may be 59 but age has had zero effect on the “Mission: Impossible — Fallout” star’s beauty. Yet if anyone were to give her a compliment about it, it doesn’t seem like the actress would particularly take too kindly to it.

“I guess it’s a high-class problem to have. But you don’t really know what to say when someone says: ‘Oh, my God, you look so good [for 59],” she told Net-a-Porter magazine.  “What do they expect? For you to be completely broken down?”

As for how she keeps up her appearance, Bassett attributes it to a clean diet to 85 percent of her natural beauty.

“I’m regimented and rigorous about what I’m eating,” she said.

She also admitted to having a trainer, whom she sees four to five times per week if she’s not traveling.

“I’ll try to get to the hotel gym and do 30 minutes of cardio, and lift a couple of weights or something,” Bassett confessed. “But I’m not getting up at 4 a.m. to workout.”

In the past, the “Black Panther” star has dished on anti-aging secrets, telling Essence in 2016 she began taking care of her skin early on.

“Even though my mother was a woman of little means, she would take me to a dermatologist every six weeks when I was a teenager,” she said. “And after college when I was a young actress living in New York, I would go to an aesthetician when I could afford to.”

Bassett also prioritizes her sleep, encouraging folks to “be a bit selfish.”

“I try to get away with seven hours [of sleep], but if it’s six hours, I feel it immediately. There’s less bounce-back!” she said. “You have to take care of yourself.”

Fans have definitely taken notice of the star’s looks, gushing over her appearance online.

“WOW I’m gonna need Angela Bassett to stop slaying my existence. Stunning as always!”

“Fiiiiiiiiiiiercely FIFTYlicious! you are my #WCW.”
