Roseanne Barr is once again giving an explanation for her racist tweet about former Barack Obama aide Valerie Jarrett and this time she’s blaming it all on mistaking her for being white.
Back in May, Barr was the center of controversy for tweeting of Jarrett, “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” After an uproar, ABC pulled her rebooted sitcom, “Roseanne.” Afterward, Barr explained she had been taking Ambien and blamed it for the racist tweet.
On Thursday, July 19, Barr issued her latest explanation for the post in a video which The Blast reported was part of a larger interview with her son, Jake.
After Jake muses about a Donald Trump hypothetical, Barr erupts about Jarrett after puffing on a cigarette.
“I’m trying to talk about Iran! I’m trying to talk about Valerie Jarett wrote the Iran deal! That’s what my tweet was about. I thought the b—- was white! Goddammit! I thought the b—- was white! F—!”
It’s the same explanation Barr gave when she explained once again about the tweet, which Jarrett didn’t take personal issue with.
“I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment,” Jarrett said on MSNBC at the time. “I’m fine. I’m worried about all the people out there who don’t have a circle of friends and followers who come right to their defense.”
A month after the initial controversy, Barr said on a Jewish podcast that she “didn’t mean what they think I meant.”
In response to Barr’s latest rant, Twitter users have been skewering her.
“She is starting to remind me of former Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott. Without the charm.”
“Did the Ambien make her think that Valerie Jarrett was white?! 🤔”
“This reminds me of Thanksgiving at my crazy Aunt’s house when I was a kid. Ah, good times…”
“This woman needs people around her that give a damn. She either needs help or she is doing this for publicity. Either way, no good.”
