Gareon Conley is filing a lawsuit against his rape accuser, claiming her “false” accusations cost him sponsorship opportunities and damaged his reputation.
The Oakland Raiders cornerback was accused of raping Brooke Puscian weeks before the NFL Draft in 2017, according to TMZ. An investigation launched during the draft and the athlete — who was once among the top prospects — took a hit before the Raiders made him their 24th overall pick.
Puscian claimed Conley violated her in the suite of the Westin hotel after she declined to have sex with him and another couple that April.
In July 2017, Conley was cleared in the case and a grand jury declined to move forward with charging him.
The celebrity gossip website reported Thursday, July 5 that the CB has now filed legal documents alleging her dishonest claims caused serious damage to his reputation, harmed his stock in the draft and lost him several endorsement deals “including a contract with Nike.”
He also addressed the night that led Puscian to accuse him of violating her. The footballer said she aggressively tried to have sex with him but when he turned her down, she got embarrassed. As such, Conley claims she lied to the police out of malice when he rejected her offer to hook up.
The filing, obtained by TMZ, said Puscian is liable for “malicious criminal prosecution” and he wants a hefty sum in the millions. The exact amount was not disclosed on the website.
In response to the news of the lawsuit, many have come out in support of Conley.
“It’s hard enough to come forward without all of these lies. I don’t blame him for suing her. Hopefully, he can get his career back on track after this.”
“I agree [it] not only hurts this guy’s life forever, hurts EVERY woman who should come forward when an actual crime has been committed. Truly despicable.”
“Women who make false claims get no repercussions from doing it it’s almost like, ‘S— let me shoot my shot I could get a settlement [and] if not no loss.’ They need to face jail time and be sued on top of it I guarantee u they’d stop doing this money grab bs.”
