Eve may be able to hold her own in the rap game, but that doesn’t mean that social media trolls can’t get under her skin.
The rapper/actress on CBS’ “The Talk” Friday, explained that she nearly ditched Twitter, Instagram and the like when trolls of a certain celebrity came after her.
“That’s just life and the life we live right now, that there’s so many ignorant people that have a voice and they can come at you and anybody on social media,” she said on the June 15 episode at the 3:03 mark. “It’s just open water, and it sucks. And even if you have a thick skin, it still hurts. For me, I had a situation where I said something about someone, and their fans started coming at me… It was (on this show), actually.
While the star didn’t name the celebrity or the fandom that came for her, many speculate that she is referring to Nicki Minaj. During her first month on “The Talk” in November, she dissed Minaj over her “Minaj à Trois” Paper magazine cover.
“As I’ve gotten older [I’ve] learned I’d just rather be a voice that’s uplifting,” she said. “I can be a voice for those girls that might not have a voice, in a different way without showing myself off…For the Nicki fans, because I know I’m gonna get some tweets from her fans, honey … I love her, respect her. Go women in hip hop. It’s not my thing. I just don’t think it’s right. Personally. Period. That’s it.”
On Friday Eve spoke about the swift response. “It hit me so hard and so fast, and I have a thick skin, but it was so much, I was like, ‘Wow,'” Eve explained recently on “The Talk.” “It actually made me a question ‘Do I want to delete my (social media) accounts? Should I…?'”
Still, Eve realized “at the end of the day, you can’t please everyone” and refused to let the trolls get the best of her.
“There are gonna be people who come at you no matter what, and it gives you even more of a thick skin,” she said “And most of those people are miserable. If you have the time to come at people and be ignorant, you’re miserable. Get a life!”
