“Insecure” star Issa Rae lived up to the opposite of the name of her hit HBO series Monday night when she became the talk of the town at the CFDA Awards.

The comedian-actress hosted the prestigious fashion awards gala June 4 and when she was on stage, she took aim at Kanye West over his viral slavery “sounds like a choice remarks.”

“I’m about as fashionable as Kanye is Black. Only when it’s convenient,” she said according to USA Today. “That joke was my choice, just like slavery.”

Rae boldly made the comment in front of honoree Kim Kardashian, who has defended her husband as a “free thinker” in light of his support for Donald Trump. But, according to Ye on his song, “Wouldn’t Leave,” Kardashian called him “screaming saying we’re about to lose it all.”

The KKW Beauty creator received the Influencer Award that evening.

Yet ahead of the West remark, Rae also made a statement with her fashion as she walked the red carpet in a custom blue Pyer Moss gown adorned with more than 180,000 Swarovski crystals. It also featured a belt thought up by designer Kerby Jean-Raymond, which featured a variant the song title,“Every N—-er Is a Star.” The Boris Gardine tune was played during the Pyer Moss fall/winter 2018 runway show.

The sash was praised online.

“Her belt reads ‘Every N—a Is A Star.’ A fashion moment.”

“Issa Rae wore a belt to the #CFDA’s that said ‘Every n—a is a star.’ For the culture”

‘It’s not my lane… but u gots 2 respect @IssaRae gives no shits, & is unapologetically Black at ALL times.”

And folks also applauded Rae taking on West in front of his wife.

“My favorite thing from the CFDA Awards has to be Issa Rae’s ‘Every N—a is a Star’ belt. I’m living. Oh, and her Kanye jabs.”

“Issa Rae is savage for that Kanye West joke lol, how awkward must [have] it been for his wife but then again, what qualifies as an awkward experience for Kim? #CFDA2018.”
