Meek Mill has been released from prison after spending nearly five months in a Philadelphia penitentiary. Tons of his celebrity backers have been celebrating his release.
The Philadelphia Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 24 ordered Mill, who had been sentenced to two to four years for violating a nearly decade-old probation, to be released immediately on unsecured bail.
Upon his release, Meek tweeted, “I’d like to thank God, my family, and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time. While the past five months have been a nightmare, the prayers, visits, calls, letters and rallies have helped me stay positive.”
He continued, “To the Philly District Attorney’s office, I’m grateful for your commitment to justice. I understand that many people of color across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues. In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career.”
Following his release, the MC rang the bell at the start of the Philadelphia 76ers game against the Miami Heat. Meanwhile, stars including Rihanna, Jay-Z, T.I. and Kevin Hart have been sharing their glee over Meek’s freedom.
