Screenwriter and producer Tyler Perry, dishes on his art bidding battle with the Carter’s 6-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.
The hilarious competition took place at a charity event on Saturday organized by Tina Lawson Knowles and Richard Lawson to support their Waco Theater. Video footage showed the 6-year-old bidding $19,000 for a painting of Sidney Poitier at LA’s Wearable Art Gala, but who exactly was she bidding against?
To everyone’s surprise, it just so happened to be Perry. The “Acrimony” director sat down with comedian Jimmy Kimmel on Monday and told him what really went down.
“I was really, really excited to be there and there was this art that came out for auction… It’s this beautiful painting of Sidney Poitier and I’m like, ‘I’ve got to have that’,” Perry said.
The producer began to bid on the painting and unbeknownst to him, Blue began to raise her paddle too and refused to back down. “She keeps going up and up and up with [ raising the paddle]” Perry told Kimmel.
After battling it out, the “Madea” actor took the exquisite art for $20,000 and Blue Ivy was shut down by her father Jay-Z.
“For me, I’m thinking it’s charity, it’s a good cause and I’m not letting this kid take this painting from me… I’m gonna teach you now little girl! You’re not gonna get everything you want’,” Perry exclaimed.
Lool… Blue Ivy is about to buy all the Artworks at the auction. She must have been listening to JayZ's tracks about Basquiat and investing in Art. pic.twitter.com/Nd0pFrA16z
