Yet another school shooting has gripped the nation. This time at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. On Tuesday, March 20, a 17-year-old student shot two other students and was later killed by a school resource officer.
A mother spoke to local news station WJLA outside the school as she came prepared to pick up her son following the shooting. However, she learned she would have to travel another 15 miles before getting access to her child. “I’m sitting here because I don’t want to go there,” she said. “I want my son out of that school. I’m waiting for them to release my son. They’re telling us to go to some school. I just can’t go there.”
The terrified mother questioned why the school doesn’t have metal detectors and a check bag procedure. “How did this gentleman get in the school with this gun,” she asked.
