Angela Bassett Believes She Was Robbed of an Oscar for This Movie

Who can forget Angela Bassett’s groundbreaking role as singer Tina Turner in the movie “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” Many fans felt she deserved an Oscar for the popular film and the “Black Panther” actress agrees.

Although it’s been 23 years since the debut of the infamous biographical film, fans are still upset that Bassett lost the Academy Award in 1994 for her portrayal of the “Proud Mary” singer. During an episode on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live,” host Andy Cohen read a comment from a fan who felt the “Waiting to Exhale” actress was robbed of an Oscar.

Giggling, Bassett replied, “Yeah, me too.”

She ultimately lost the award to a white actress, Holly Hunter, who starred in the movie “The Piano.”

Bassett also informed viewers anticipating a “Black Panther” sequel, that she “hasn’t heard anything” for now.
