Oscars Didn’t Pay Tiffany Haddish to Present So She Walked Away with This Consolation Prize

Tiffany Haddish’s presenting gig with Maya Rudolph at the Oscars was such a success that she became a trending topic on Twitter. And while Haddish remembered being excited about the role, she learned that it wouldn’t result in a paycheck like she hoped.

“In my mind, Maya [Rudolph] and I, we auditioned for the ultimate job because I thought we was getting paid for that presentation,” Haddish tells Variety at the SXSW premiere of her show,“The Last O.G.” “And then I found out we didn’t get paid, then I was like, ‘I heard about gift bags.’ And then they were like, ‘We don’t got no gift bags,’ And then I was like ‘Well what do I get?’ and they [said] ‘We got a bottle of wine that’s like $13.’ So I had to buy the wine.”

Haddish and Rudolph’s hilarious intro to the awards for documentary short and live-action short had the crowd and Twitter users laughing uproariously. Both of their names became synonymous with tweets hoping they’d be tapped to host next year’s show, which Haddish would definitely do on one condition.

“At the end of the day, I would love to do something like that,” Haddish says. “That would be a dream come true. I know my father would be extremely proud if I got to do that. As long as I get a paycheck.”
