Gabrielle Union has earned an apology from a South Florida news station after it referred to her as Dwyane Wade’s wife.
WSVN 7 News tweeted Monday, March 12 that the Miami Heat guard and his actress spouse donated $200,000 to “March for Our Lives.” The student-run gun control rally is due to take place on Saturday, March 24 in Washington, D.C.
“@DwyaneWade, wife donates $200,000 to student-ran gun control rally,” the tweet read.
The former “Being Mary Jane” star was none too pleased with the way she was mentioned.

Other Twitter users have lashed out at the station for not mentioning Union by name.
“Me counting all the characters you had left to type @itsgabrielleu,” someone wrote.
“Really?! She has a name, she is more than just Dwayne’s wife,” another person fired off. “She stands in her own excellence. Her name is Gabrielle Union, @itsgabrielleu.”
“Her name is @itsgabrielleu GABRIELLE UNION,” tweeted another. “Say it with me GABRIELLE. UNION. Do better.”
Another wrote, “Keep the consistency. Y’all know who @itsgabrielleu is, get your writers together.”
Amid demands the tweet is deleted, WSVN 7 said doing so “would look like we are trying to hide what happened. While we regret it, deleting it would be worse.”
Instead, the station tweeted the link again, this time, with Union’s full name included. It also apologized to the actress and had a word with the writer.
