Cardi B isn’t new to receiving flack for her outspokenness and her recent commentary wasn’t any different. After the recent Florida mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida last week, many people sent condolences to the victims. Additionally, there was a lot of conversation about what needed to be done next and how to stop future atrocities.
The “Bodak Yellow” rapper chimed in with her two cents on the matter. She told her younger audience on Instagram that the way to prevent school shootings is to be nice to children who may not fit in. The rapper said, “The school shooter is never the jock, the cheerleader.. its always the kid that’s a little bit socially awkward.” She continued, “the best way to prevent these kinds of tragedies is to stop picking on these kids, stop bullying these kids. If you see a kid that’s not like you, compliment them… stop picking on these kids.”
Her very bold statements left some thinking that she was defending the shooter by calling him “socially awkward”. Her caption stating “Sh*t so sad. The devil be busy” also made it appear that she was taking the blame off the shooter for his own actions. This sent her followers into a frenzy.
But not everyone was against Cardi, some believed her words carried weight and people should take heed.
