Idris Elba is off the market and the women of Twitter don’t know what to do with themselves. The “Luther” star proposed to model Sabrina Dhowre Saturday, Feb. 10 during a London screening of his directorial debut film, “Yardie.” And while the crowd at Rio Cinema erupted with cheers, the reaction from his legions of female fans was decidedly different.
“Idris Elba is engaged to someone the same age as me,” someone tweeted of the actor’s engagement to the 29-year-old former Miss Vancouver. “Please respect my privacy in this difficult time, I will not be taking any questions.”
“Idris Elba got engaged and folks thinking it means something,” another tweeted about the 45-year-old’s relationship status, complete with three crying laughing emojis.
“If Idris Elba engaged then so am I,” a woman said.
Elba’s availability may have surprised some given his statements to Essence magazine that he wouldn’t get married again.
“Am I ever gonna get remarried? I don’t think so. Yeah, I don’t think so,” he said last year. “Marriage is an institution of sorts. And I’ve done it. It’s not for everybody. It’s not my life’s calling.”
Still, he met and fell in love with Dhowre while filming 2017’s “The Mountain Between Us,” a film about falling in love.
