Rihanna changed the makeup game when her Fenty Beauty line introduced foundations fit for most any skin tone. And now, she’s going to shake up the industry once more when the brand takes over sales from Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.
New research from Slice Intelligence shows this to be true, as WWD reported Friday, Jan. 26. Launched in September, Fenty Beauty’s first-month sales were five times more than Kylie Cosmetics and by October, sales were 34 percent higher.
For comparison as to how much Fenty Beauty could pull in, Kylie Cosmetics has sold $420 worth of products while KKW, from Kardashian, was expected to generate $14 million in sales when it launched in June.
Something else separating Rihanna’s brand from the pack is the devoted fanbase made up of Black, Hispanic and Asain consumers, with the former two making up the majority of purchasers. Such buyers are willing to drop $471 per makeup category on items like the Stunna red lip paint, Killawatt Freestyle highlighter and the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation.
