Rickey Smiley stopped by The Wendy Williams Show on Thursday to promote his new book “Stand by Your Truth: And Then Run for Your Life!”, but he also weighed in on how he disciplines his children, nieces, and nephews.
“I’m a tough parent. Nobody’s entitled… Entitlement is the worst characteristic one can develop”, he tells Wendy.
“I believe in old-school discipline and old-school home training because it didn’t hurt me”, he adds. “Either you do that or you go to their funeral.”
Smiley describes to Wendy that he makes his boys sleep on cots in the garage when they misbehave. He mentions that the boys get two soups per day, two baths, and three outfits a week. “I get a lot of flack”, he said.
Smiley grew up in an impoverished neighborhood in Alabama, so he believes that his children should be taught responsibility. He later adds, “That’s the problem with some of these kids now… They are entitled, they don’t work anywhere.”
