A Teary Ellen FaceTimes Oprah About the Devastation Caused by the California Mudslides

As the deadly mudslides continue to ravage California, Oprah Winfrey’s FaceTime call with pal Ellen DeGeneres proves celebrities are not immune.

“All of my neighbors’ homes are gutted,” Winfrey says, after saying she initially thought her property was fine. “I’m standing right now in, still, a lot of mud but not as much mud as yesterday. I walked out back where we share a fence line and the neighbors out back, their houses are gone, just gone. So it’s as devastating as it can be.”

The former talk show host and DeGeneres went on to thank the Montecito, Calif., firefighters who have been searching for victims. Some people have been trapped by the mudslides triggered by a combination of fire, wind, heavy rain and erosion.
