Campus police are working to identify a man seen urinating on the University of Michigan Diag where the words “Black Lives Matter” were written in chalk.
The video posted to Twitter on Wednesday, Sept. 27, shows a white man walking up to the Diag, a large, open social area on the Ann Arbor campus, and then peeing on the chalking. The young woman who shared the video noted that a student had kneeled on the Diag as a form of protest against racism just hours before.

That student, Dana Greene, Jr., took a knee for 20 hours straight, in an effort to bring attention to issues faced by African-Americans on campus and across the nation, MLive reported.
U-M’s Department of Public Safety and Security issued a statement Thursday saying they were launching an investigation into the incident.
“Late Wednesday morning, we were notified that pictures and a video were circulating on social media showing a male urinating near the block M of the Diag possibly early Wednesday morning,” the department said.
“Anyone with information about this incident or the subject in the video is urged to contact DPSS at 734-763-1131.”
