“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin dropped some knowledge on a Twitter follower who felt it was his place to tell her about her heritage. A man reportedly said Hostin didn’t have African in her blood since she didn’t look Black. Then, the ABC legal correspondent gave him a quick history lesson.
The schooling took place after Hostin tweeted her condolences for the Caribbean island that’s 100 percent without power after Hurricane Maira’s destruction, Wednesday, Sept. 20.
My mother is Puerto Rican & my father African American. History lesson – Puerto Ricans are Spanish, Indian & African. @davelaponti777 https://t.co/xbr9PUnRn8

User @davelaponti777’s post has since been deleted, but not before he found a co-signer.
Actually PR lineage has no African. That’s a myth. The original Americans (Indians) were dark skinned people resembling Africans.

Not so fast, Mr. Barnes. Hostin has some education for you, too.
You're wrong @jamesbarnes77. Puerto Ricans are Taino (native to the island), African (the slave ships went to PR too) and Iberian (Columbus) https://t.co/HQ0ndp7bhG

Hostin isn’t alone in her assessment. National Geographic’s Genographic Project reported the average Puerto Rican has 20 percent sub-Saharan African DNA. Native American makes 12 percent of the average islander’s DNA and 65 percent comes from the Mediterranean, northern Europe and/or the Middle East.

And yes I was born and raised there!

Puerto Rican is a nationality.
It is not a race.
Regardless of your race
if you are born in Puerto Rico
=Puerto Rican.
See how that works.— Alisha Gadsden (@aggadsden_) September 20, 2017
Still, it doesn’t seem like world cultures was @davelaponti777’s best subject.
