Legendary singer Mariah Carey’s rise to fame will come to life in a scripted drama series on the popular premium network Starz.
The new series will take place in New York City circa 1986 and will follow an aspiring 16-year-old songwriter whose hardships inspired her to become a world-renowned superstar. Carey will co-executive produce alongside close friend, Brett Rather, screen writer Nina Colman, Golden Globe nominee Stella Bulochnikov, Teri Weinberg and John Cheng.
Powered by an astounding five-octave vocal range, Carey’s career soared in the early ’90s and continued well into the 2000s. She is the most successful female singer-songwriter of all time, with 18 No. 1 hits, more than 160 million records sold worldwide and five Grammys under her belt.
Carey, who executive produced her own docu-series on E!, “Mariah’s World,” now is set to go on an “All The Hits” tour with Lionel Richie beginning July 21.
