LaVar Ball Shaking Things Up Again As He and Sons Set to Star In Facebook Docuseries

LaVar Ball changing the entertainment industry game once again, this time by taking his family to Facebook for a docuseries.

Ball and his basketball star sons, Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo will be featured on the yet-to-be-named series, Deadline reported Monday, June 3. Other details on the show, including the number and length of episodes, has not been determined.

“LaVar is just being absolutely smart about this,” SI Now co-host Maggie Gray said Thursday, July 6, after discussing Ball’s shoe-deal efforts with Big Baller Brand. “I think LaVar Ball has a bigger shot at a larger audience by being on Facebook, so it’s not that he’s jumped the shark. The smart take is that LaVar is turning into a media mogul.”

The Ball series, which LaVar Ball initially confirmed as a reality series on “Undisputed” in March, joins Mike Rowe’s “Returning the Favor” as one of two original series Facebook is moving forward with as part of its push to break into video content, according to Deadline. It is also looking to get into live streaming sports events like the UEFA Champions League soccer matches, which executives feel will appeal to younger audiences and drive advertising revenue.

Lonzo Ball was chosen by the Los Angeles Lakers as the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft, which his dad proudly bragged about in June. The other star ball-playing sons, LiAngelo and LaMelo, are set to follow in their brother’s footsteps at UCLA after graduating from Chino Hills High School in California.
