A Twitter comment about Ben Carson getting stuck in an affordable housing complex elevator turned into a spirited back-and-forth over what the proper pronoun is for God.

Carson, the Secretary of U.S. Housing and Urban Development, toured Courtside Family Apartments, an affordable housing complex in the Miami’s Overtown neighborhood, Wednesday, April 12. After a rooftop visit with Miami-Dade County Public Housing Director Michael Liu and several others, the group got stuck when the elevator doors wouldn’t open, according to the Miami Herald.

Fire rescue arrived to get the jammed doors open and news quickly spread about the coincidental situation since Carson once said he doesn’t have enough experience to be a member of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet.

When Deray Mckesson tweeted that Carson’s dilemma is God speaking up on the matter, many took issue with his use of the pronoun “she” rather than the biblical “he.”

Reactions included arguments for God’s feminity, the gender being up to the individual believer and God being transgender.

@DeclinedCC @Jaida_Steele @TreyArline @deray Did “he” also tell you God is a white, bearded man in the sky?
