A staunch critic of President Donald Trump, Rep. Maxine Waters of California continued her assault on his administration by scolding Cabinet members for their alleged ties with Russia.
Waters, who refused to attend Trump’s inauguration last month, called high-ranking officials “a bunch of scumbags” on the Tuesday, Feb. 22, telecast of MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes.”
“I just think that the American people had better understand what’s going on,” Waters says. “This is a bunch of scumbags. That’s what they are who are all organized around making money.”
Host Chris Hayes asked the congresswoman to clarify what she meant and she didn’t hesitate. Waters hammered Trump’s administration for allegedly ripping off the American people and cozying up to Russia. She said that former Exxon Mobil CEO and current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was one of the “scumbags” she was talking about.
“All of these people who are organized with these oil and gas interests, who are in the administration and friends of the president of the United States and the back channeling you see. These are a bunch of scumbags,” Waters exclaims before calling out Tillerson by name.
“Well, I tell you this: Tillerson is there to get these [Russian] sanctions lifted,” Waters says. “I believe it. Just watch him. He’s going to continue to work on it. This is important to him. He was there because he negotiated the deal with Exxon with [Valdimir] Putin.”
