UN Gets Its First Female Permanent Representative, Cuba’s Anayansi Rodriguez

United Nations, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) — Cuba’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Anayansi Rodríguez, affirmed Jan. 23 the island’s commitment to the organization’s objectives, including peace and sustainable development without exclusion.

At the ceremony to present her credentials to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, the ambassador congratulated the former Portuguese prime minister for the responsibility assumed on January 1 and expressed the support of the Caribbean country in its management.

Rodriguez became the first Cuban woman to hold the position of permanent representation in the main headquarters of the 193 member states, after replacing Rodolfo Reyes. Guterres welcomed the ambassador and expressed his hopes of developing good cooperation ties with Cuba.

After the presentation of credentials, the Secretary General and Rodriguez held a private meeting in his office on the 38th floor of the United Nations headquarters in New York.
