British and American Intelligence Had African Continent Under ‘Massive Surveillance’ Per Report

Africa’s heads of states and business heads have been spied on by British and American intelligence services, French newspaper Le Monde has reported.

According to data released by Edward Snowden, the former consultant of the U.S. National Security Agency, Washington and London have placed the African continent and its telecommunications under massive surveillance.

Among the victims of this espionage are heads of state, heads of government, opposition leaders, rebels and various businessmen.

At least 20 African countries were under surveillance by British intelligence satellites between 2008 and 2011, according to these documents.

The nonexhaustive list includes Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Togo, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Ghana and Nigeria.

Mobile phone groups operating in Africa also have not been spared, according to Snowden’s caches.
