D.L. Hughley: ‘It Takes 19 Weeks to Become a Cop but 44 Weeks Become a Beautician’

On the Sept. 28 edition of HLN’s “Michaela,” comedian and commentator D.L. Hughley discussed recent police-involved shootings.

Hughley has become more vocal about rampant police brutality after the shooting deaths of Tulsa’s Terence Crutcher and Charlotte’s Keith Scott last week. In the segment above, he points out that a beautician in America receives more training than the average police officer on patrol.

“Fifty percent of the people shot by police are physically, mentally or emotionally handicapped,” Hughley starts. “… [Hughley references the Alfred Olango shooting]. Somebody called for help and what they got was a bullet. Obviously, there’s a mental health component … Why does it take 19 weeks to become a cop, but 44 weeks to become a beautician? So a curling iron is that much more dangerous than a Beretta.”
