On the Aug. 17 edition of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” host Trevor Noah breaks down Donald Trump’s Wisconsin speech in the wake of Milwaukee unrest.
On Saturday, Aug. 13, armed suspect 23-year-old Sylville Smith was shot while fleeing from police during a traffic stop.
In response, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump used the violent protests that unfolded after the shooting to reach Black voters.
Trump told Black voters at a West Bend, Wisconsin rally that the “Democratic Party has failed and betrayed the African-American community.”
In the segment above, Noah digs into Trump’s message while simultaneously adding analysis.
“So wait. Donald Trump is implying that the only reason Black communities feel oppressed isn’t because of their experiences. No, it’s because of the Democrats who have tricked them,” he says in the clip. “Like before that, Black people didn’t know what was happening to them? Like Black people were surprised when Democrats came and [were] like, ‘Wait, what? This is oppression? Oh, I thought the officer was massaging me with his nightstick! Oh, I didn’t know! Why thank you, Mr. Democrat.’”
Then, the comedian touches on the recent Department of Justice scathing report on the Baltimore police department as a retort to Trump calling for more police.
