In a June 23 interview with Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning, actress and singer KeKe Palmer dishes about her new album and the inspiration behind her controversial Kush-inspired tattoo.
On June 13, the “Scream Queens” star caused an uproar over an Instagram post featuring her new tattoo, which honors the legacy of the eastern African kingdom of Kush. The ancient Egyptian neighbor to the south was known for its fierce warrior-queens and lavish gold supply. She says that is what inspired her to get it.
In the interview, Palmer states that she wants to learn more about her African ancestors, and the tattoo is just one way to explore that.
“I don’t want to always think about slavery … We actually have another history that we don’t hear that much about,” Palmer explains.” I wanted [the tattoo] to be a conversation piece.”
