Many locals are furious about Minnesota establishing Beyoncé Day, wondering why the “Lemonade” record maker deserves the distinction. Governor Mark Dayton signed a proclamation May 23, marking that day to honor the singer.

The document outlines Bey’s achievements, including a collection of BET, NAACP Image and Grammy Awards. It continues, stating “Beyonce has influenced many young girls and women with powerful, positive messages in her songs.” Since thousands of Minnesotans attended her Formation World Tour concert at Minneapolis’ TCF Bank Stadium, the timing was right to proclaim Monday Beyoncé Day.

Fox 9 shared a story about the announcement the same day on their Facebook page. It led many to share their disappointment.

Several residents complained about feeling embarrassed to be from the city.

“I have never in my life been so embarrassed to be from Minnesota,” wrote Brandi Petit, whose comment got almost 5,000 likes.

Victoria Doyel expressed her frustration with the news. She called Dayton “an idiot” and shared, “I just threw up in my mouth a little.”

Others believed singer Paul McCartney was honored with a day after he visited the state, but Lisa Andrews corrected them before hurling an insult at Beyoncé.

“They did give Paul a day back in 2014. He deserved it. This racist pig doesn’t,” she wrote.

Marlo Hernandez also had harsh words for the singer.

“This b—-  can go by herself. I hate Beyoncé and I don’t care what anybody else says. You don’t like it, too bad. I think she’s a regular b—-.”

Patricia Nelson was one of many who questioned why Dayton gave the Houston native a day but not the  late singer Prince. She shared an email sent to the governor Tuesday morning. Nelson posted a link to a contact form asking others to send more requests to rescind the day.

“I am requesting you rescind this day and reassign it to Prince Day,” she wrote in the email, adding, “So disappointed in you Mr. Dayton! You will never get a vote from me in the future.”

But the BeyHive celebrated the moment, sharing their excitement on Twitter.
