Black & Gifted: Brilliant Self-Taught Pianist with Only 4 Fingers Debuts at Carnegie Hall

An Ohio teenager and music prodigy has broken down barriers by making it to Carnegie Hall even though he was born with only four fingers.

Darrius Simmons, 15, gained attention for his talent on the piano in Warren, Ohio. According to WFMJ, the Warren G. Harding High freshman went to the Big Apple over the weekend to play at Carnegie Hall.

Simmons was born without six fingers and has no bones below his knees. He taught himself how to use his four fingers and how to make his prosthetic legs press the right pedals. He tells reporters that he has bonded with the South Korean composer and pianist Yiruma over music. Simmons also tell WFMJ that his disability has not stopped him from achieving his dream.

“I want everyone to know that if you set your mind to something you really can do it,” he stated.
