Michigan Mom Livid After Wheelchair-Bound Teen Suspended for Defending Himself Against Racial Attacks from Bully

Cell phone footage shows a Michigan boy in a wheelchair engaged in a school fight with a white student who has reportedly bullied him online. The footage was obtained by Michigan’s WJBK Tuesday and has now gone viral online.

The two teens in the clip are students at Airport High School in Carleton, Michigan. The teen in the wheelchair appears to be African-American while the teen towering over him is white. According to reports by WJBK, the two students were fighting in the school’s cafeteria Monday when surrounding students began recording the incident.

The video shows that the wheelchair-bound teen throws the first punch, but the same student was subjected to intense online harassment by the white student according to his mother, Levette White.

“He broke my son’s femur [leg] in half and it has a pin in it — so the pin is mangled,” White said to WJBK.

She also tells reporters that her son was called racial slurs and teased about his bone disease.

After the fight, the wheelchair-bound teen was admitted into Detroit Children’s Hospital of Michigan for his leg injury.

White says that her son felt threatened “so he swung.” However, the white student retaliated with excessive force.

“When he swung, he swung, and the whole wheelchair went over,” White told reporters.

Mlive reports that the two students have been suspended for five days for the cafeteria brawl.
