Heartbroken Father of Delaware Teen Speaks Out After Her Death: ‘I Thought School Was a Safe Place’

The father of a deceased Wilmington, Delaware teenager — who died after getting into an altercation at Howard High School of Technology on Thursday morning — spoke out about the death of his beloved child.

In a Thursday interview with Philadelphia’s Fox 29, the father of 16-year-old Amy Francis-Joyner spoke to the news station about his daughter’s unfortunate passing.

Sonny Francis said, “I think this is a dream, and I’m trying to wake up. All I know is that my daughter is gone. And she was the love of my life, and it hurts.”

The grieving father told reporters that the young woman was an honor-roll student and that she should have been safe at school.

“I thought that the schools were a safe place that you could drop your kids off, and they will come home after school. But apparently that’s not the case with some of the schools now. The children are out of control.”

He told reporters that he will help investigators find out why this happened to his child.

Atlanta Black Star reported that the young woman was ganged-up on by six other girls in a bathroom. Amy reportedly slipped and hit her head on a sink.
