After 59 years of independence, Ghana has demonstrated Kwame Nkrumah’s vision, President John Dramani Mahama has said.
Addressing the nation at the Black Stars Square to mark Ghana’s 59th Independence Anniversary, the president said the vision of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah — to demonstrate to the world and other nations that we are prepared to lay our own foundation and our own African personality — has been fulfilled.
The President of Guinea-Bissau, Jose Mario Vaz, and President Uhuru Kenyata of Kenya joined President Mahama as the country marked its anniversary from colonial rule.
The president called for unity and urged Ghanaians to discourage conversations and activities that will disunite Ghana.
“We cannot encourage conversations and activities that are meant to weaken our moral or limit our potential at this particular moment,” President Mahama indicated.
He said Ghanaians should bear in mind that in some years to come, children will depend on the attitude and actions of what are being done today.
“The changes we make lift them [children] higher to provide them with a solid foundation on which they too can build this nation,” he stated.
