16 Most Memorable Black Twitter Moments of 2015

When Nicholas Fraser did a cover of the Next song “Too Close” for Vine, it became one of the most watched videos on the internet this year.  Black Twitter soon got in on the joke and began sharing memes and Tweets using the title of Fraser’s cover as a hashtag.

 

#Damonsplaining

During a conversation on diversity in Hollywood, Effie Brown, a producer for Project Green Light challenged Matt Damon on the lack of diversity in one of their projects behind the camera and how the only person of color in the film was reduced to playing to a stereotype of Black women as prostitutes.  Rather than acknowledge Brown’s expertise and understanding of racism as a Black woman, Damon took the opportunity to explain racism and diversity to her.  The clap back from Black Twitter was swift as they used the hashtag #Damonsplaining— a play on the term “whitesplaining”— to demonstrate how white people often attempt to explain, with authority, racism to the people of color who actually experience it.
