All of the Victims Are Black Women
Each of the 13 victims are Black. The assaults occurred over a period of months and involved women ages 17 into their 50s.
Holtzclaw is accused of targeting Black women while patrolling the northeast side of Oklahoma City until the boundaries of his precinct changed to include the northwest part of the city, where other victims alleged to have been assaulted by him.
Prosecutors claim Holtzclaw would approach or stop Black women and run their names to see if they had records or outstanding warrants. He assaulted women he believed would not report him to authorities and comply to evade arrest.
Holtzclaw, 28, was arrested in August 2014 after a victim, identified as J.L., reported her assault in person at the local police station. The resulting investigation uncovered similarities to unsolved assault reports by a police officer in the area.
