Rebel Wilson delivered a comedic bit about police brutality at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.
The Pitch Perfect star while dressed on stage as a police officer, stripped off her uniform to reveal a shirt that said “F- Tha Police”.
Wilson, who was presenting the award for Best Hip-Hop video, started her joke by saying that “a lot of people have problems with the police,” suggesting to many that she was going to provide social commentary on police violence and the Black Lives Matter Movement.
Instead, the comedian launched a joke about how she “really hated police strippers” and that these cops, were the true bad police.
“You guys know what I’m talking about. They come to your house, you think you’re getting arrested, and you just get a lap dance that is usually uninspired”, Wilson said. “I hired police stripper for my grandma’s 80th, and he wouldn’t even feel her up. I hate this injustice, hence the shirt.”
The joke offended many viewers, who quickly expressed their disbelief on twitter:
I bet you @MTV wouldn’t make a joke about white boys who shoot up movie theater or schools to introduce the best Country video.

Beyond all the jokes the #VMAs just mocked black PPL getting killed by the police. Don’t ever forget that.

The comedy writers need to be fired for the tacky jokes. The police joke was uncalled for. #VMAs #VMAs2015

Wilson went on to present the Best Hip-Hop video award to Nicki Minaj for “Anaconda”.
Lol this is a reach. The joke aunt have shit to do with black people or police brutality. It was just a weak ass joke.
*ain't
LOL. You know it's innovative comedy when it offends everybody.
Karnegie Kinsie During a very sensitive time, when many people are grieving. Weak ass, yes. Trivializing what blacks are going through- Definitely.
Black people are the only people taking the moral highground. How has that been working for us so far? When they do this, just start making jokes about Sandy Hook, Aurora Colorado, UC Santa Barber, 9/11 and any other time a group of whites get killed. And when they try to shame us, just reference every time like this and others.
……What about the black people that died in those events. And Sandy Hook?!?! Those were children, like first graders! I think we as black people can find away to prove appoint with out mocking the dead, and innocent children.
this was just a really bad joke
