On June 17, Dylann Roof (who had an affinity for racist paraphernalia like the Confederate flag and the flag of Rhodesia) entered into the Charleston, South Carolina, Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and murdered nine Black parishioners. After the massacre, Roof went to North Carolina where he was captured in the town of Shelby. According to writer Simon McCormack for the Huffington Post, “Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford told the Charlotte Observer that when Roof complained he was hungry, cops went to a nearby Burger King and bought the accused mass murderer a meal while he was in custody.” As of today, Roof has not been charged with terrorism.
Border Militias
On the Mexican-American border, there are militia groups with the goal of patrolling and protecting the border from immigrants illegally crossing into the country. These groups have no legal authority but actively carry guns while claiming to “protect” the country. The photo above is of the Patriots Information Hotline militia group, which claims to have 14 teams across Texas, Arizona and California.
