Dominican Truckers Union Blocks Border Crossings Into Haiti to Protest Violence Against Drivers

ft-protestas-haitiSANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – The main truckers union in the Dominican Republic on Monday blocked transport of all freight through border crossings into neighboring Haiti, citing concerns about their safety.

The Dominican truckers said they were protesting recent violence against them while in Haiti. They asserted that some 60 trucks were pelted with rocks in recent days and some were looted.

Union leader Blas Peralta said the blockade will continue until Haiti provides better security on its side of the border. For now, Dominican trucks are being unloaded at the border crossings and Haitian buyers must arrange transport for goods.

Normally, some 200 trucks each day carry tons of food, construction materials and other items across the border on the island of Hispaniola, which is shared by the two countries. Haiti is the Dominican Republic’s biggest export market after the United States.

It’s the second protest so far this year by Dominican truckers. In March, they refused to cross the border for several days amid protests in Haiti about the treatment of Haitian citizens in the Dominican Republic.

The truckers’ latest protest comes as the Dominican Republic is under international scrutiny for immigration policies that affect mostly Haitians and people of Haitian descent.

There was a June 17 deadline for migrants to apply for legal residency under a controversial program aimed at regulating the flow of migrants across the porous border with Haiti. Authorities have warned that anyone without proof of legal residency faces deportation.

Haitian Prime Minister Evans Paul has warned that deportations into Haiti could create a “humanitarian crisis.”

Haitians attack our Dominican embassies in Haiti, burn our flag and abuse our truckers and loot their shipments. But it's OK because they're a poor little black country that can do no wrong; the angel of the caribbean.

Don't forget black lives matter, except when they are Blatinos. The 16 yr old Dominican kid who was massacred by 8 grown Haitians, his life doesn't matter. Had it been a 16 yr old Haitian…..it would be all over the news showing how bad we Dominicans are as a people. The 12 truckers taken to the hospital for their injuries in the last attack, their lives mean nothing to the OEA, ONGs, and all the other leeches stealing money by using the plight of the Haitians. While their coffers are full, by using the poor Haitians, they could give a fig about poor Dominican lives on their own soil. Hypocrites and thieves with an agenda. And it's not about helping the Haitians, it's about having an excuse to get more suckers to give money which they pocket.

here's an excerpt of the man the UN, OEA, human rights group support…their main man, Martelly:

"On Tuesday, June 28, 2015, Michel Martelly told a woman protesting against his record that she should undress and allow the men at the campaign rally to sodomize her. He also said he would bring her on stage and do the same. The Haitian Head of State furthermore called the woman a bitch in Haitian Creole and said if he was not president he would have broken her jaw."

    Isn't he a peach?

Btw…..the humanitarian crisis Martelly made up, was just another ploy to get money for the elections, which will be fraudulent anyways and they won't spend it on the elections either. Mo money, mo money, mo money and none of it get to the intended people…just more for the political corrupt elite.
