Black Women Are Always Angry
The myth of the angry Black woman is one of the most common racially charged lies spread by the white-controlled media about Black women. At every turn, Black women are constantly being assumed to be angry — remember the New York Times TV critic who referred to Scandal creator and How to Get Away With Murder producer Shonda Rhimes as an angry Black woman? Countless studies revealed that Black people are automatically perceived as more threatening than their white counterparts. For this reason, there is a different reaction to hearing a Black woman say she disapproves of something and receiving that same message from a white woman. One is assumed to be rude and disgruntled while the other is seen as an aggressive, strong woman who just knows what she wants.
To be clear, a study released by FreeCreditScore.com revealed that 75 percent of all women seek financial stability in a relationship. This is not necessarily measured in nickels and dimes, but it is something women consider to ensure they do not face the same financial hardships that tear so many couples apart. Unfortunately, it’s typically only Black women who are labeled as gold diggers for being concerned about a potential partner’s income. “For some reason a white gold digger just gets looked at differently,” one Hello Beautiful contributor wrote. “She is looked at as a singular being, if she is beautiful and blonde, she is treated like she has the right to be a gold digger. It’s like she probably couldn’t do anything else but use her good looks to get paid. If a Black woman is a gold digger she is a conniving b**** and she also represents all Black women.”
