The First Lady had a star-studded celebration for her 50th birthday bash last year but this time around it seems as if Michelle Obama opted for keeping a low profile for the birthday festivities.

It’s been three days since the fashion-forward first lady’s birthday on January 17 and so far social media hasn’t been set ablaze with photos of Beyonce at the White House or a lavish dinner with Oprah Winfrey.

The low-key birthday bash means Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee won’t have any new material for another book just yet since he clearly has issue with the First Family’s celebrity pals, Jay-Z and Beyonce.

It seems like some news of a huge bash would have certainly hit the press by now, but all lips are sealed and the rumor mill is silent.

It isn’t clear if the Obamas decided to have an intimate celebration or if the first lady took some tips from Beyonce on how to keep a huge secret under wraps.

Of course, a smaller celebration doesn’t mean big names weren’t around to toast Mrs. Obama for her birthday.

On Friday, the day before Mrs. Obama’s birthday, Oprah, rapper Common and actress Carmen Ejogo were welcomed at the White House for a screening of their new film Selma.

It is no secret that Oprah and the first lady have a close relationship, so it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to imagine the media mogul dishing out an early birthday present or wishing the first lady a happy birthday.

For now, everyone is left guessing why Michelle Obama opted out of a major celebration this year.

Michelle Obama State of the Union address dress Maybe she didn’t want to have too much fuss going on as the president prepared for his State of the Union address (where, according to social media, he solidified his spot as the coolest president in U.S. history). Perhaps after last year’s major bash she just truly wanted some down time with her family.

We may never know.

Either way, the first lady is just as stunning as she has ever been and her State of the Union dress was yet another reminder as to why she has been deemed a fashion icon by Vogue Magazine.
