Director John Singleton’s graphic and detailed movie is about an outsider (played by Ving Rhames) leading the Black community to defend itself against lynchings and terror at the hands of whites. Singleton did a masterful job of retelling a tough, true story. No Oscar nods.
Based on the true story of a dark-skinned girl who was born to two white Afrikaner parents in South Africa during the apartheid era and the struggles that came with her plight. The film earned many awards … none of them Oscars, though.
