  1. Marcus Garvey turned our race around! Prof. Tony Martin is exactly right on point.

  2. It is hard to think about it was other black leaders who helped the government to destroy Marcus Garvey. When we see the condition of blacks today you can say it was those blacks uncle tom leaders who destroyed Garvey, and is the reason for our condition today. If they had left him along we would be the most powerful black group in the world, and Africa would not be suffering. It has been over seventy years since he left us, and so far we have not had another to step in his shoes, that is not to say we don't have any, however, when you look at what happened to Garvey I suppose it put a lot of fear in us, and we fell by the wayside. If we as a race do not change our ways and start to build or rebuild what Garvey had started, we will never make any progress. Oprah becoming a billionaire, Mayweather, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, millionaires, the list goes on, but it is not progress for our group, they are individuals who were lucky, I suppose. We need self determination, it is the only thing that will help us as a group to be progressive. Yes Marcus Garvey, was great, Chokwe Lumumba had a plan, if he could have gotten it started, we would have been like Garvey and his group, and I am wondering about his death. Praise is due these wonderful brothers. I am waiting on our next Marcus Garvey or Chokwe Lumumba.

Why is it that every writer who writes on Marcus Garvey forgets to mention that he was mentored, taught and inspired by the Black Egyptian Muslim scholar in London Englan named Druse Muhammad, Also that according to his son and his wife in a interview in Detroti in the late 1980's stated that Marcus Garvey practiced Islam and was Muslim. The son and wife are both of Jamaican African American descent.

  4. Hassan Abdullah says:

Why does the writer of this article leave this fact out that Marcus Garvey was a Muslim.According to a interview that was done in the 1980;s with his widow and his son that was done at a speaking engagement in Detroit. Druse Mohammed, a Egyptian Muslim , son of a Mamluk military commander, also reported to be a mentor of Marcus Garvey, was a pan-African founder of the Universal Islamic Society in Detroit in 1926. An apparently tireless advocate for human rights, he challenged Europeans to accept an Islam-based universalism as an extension of Enlightenment ideals. He saw Islam as an alternative to Western imperialism. His ideas were readily embraced by African Americans, for whom the Islamic ideal of universal brotherhood was a welcome alternative to the racist practices of Protestant Christianity. Unfortunately, the only accounts of the Universal Islamic Society that exist are a few small pamphlets…http://www.islamawareness.net/NorthAmerica/America/history_of_musinusa.html.

Prophet Mohammed was born in Mecca, why do you think he is a so called "White"? White and black are colors and not people! Prophet Mohammed was not of European decent. If you know the geography of that region in 570 CE they were not Euopeans which many would refer to as the so called "white people" which is actually a form of white supremacy that has been passed on through slavery. Threre are no black or white people but nations of people! Peace
