It takes a pure scorer to appreciate a pure scorer. Over my career, I rang up a lot of points (26,668, an average of 24.8 points per game). But, with today's rules, I could have done more. But no matter the era, a scorer is a scorer. Wilt Chamberlain I didn’t get to play against him, but Wilt was a force. He scored 100 points in a game. What more can you say? He was dominant. Michael Jordan When I faced Michael, I knew I had to come ready because he was going to be ready. I scored 57 once on the Bulls, but Michael still had 42. He was unstoppable, no matter what defense you played against him. A fierce competitor with a lot of talent. David Thompson Oh, man, he was a handful for anybody. Great leaping ability, of course. People talked about my leaping ability, but this guy was amazing. Great mid-range game. His pull-up jumper was unblockable. George Gervin Not only could he score, but he did it without even sweating. The Iceman. Silky smooth game. Long body, lean body, but you couldn’t keep him out of the lane. To the hoop, that finger roll was his signature finish. Kobe Bryant He’s the last of the Mohicans, the absolute last guy in the league who brings the heart and effort and guts every night. He could have played in our era and fit right in. They don’t make them like Kobe anymore, I’m telling you that. Bernard King I had to play against some tough guys to defend—Larry Bird, James Worthy, Doctor J, Charles Barkley. . . I could go on—and Bernard was right up there among the toughest. He was physical and strong, especially in the post and on the break. A machine. Me I would have to include myself. I loved the game and I came with it every night. When you’re looked to for scoring and the other team knows it, yet you can still score in this league, you’re doing something. Kevin Durant So tall and skilled and a great shooter. His height gives him a great advantage and he knows how to use it. He’ll be a great young scorer for a long time.
