Lil Wayne trivialized a major tragedy in African-American history by degrading the death of Emmett Till, the 14-year-old murdered after allegedly flirting with a white woman, to nothing more than a poor simile in a rap song.
“Bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels, beat that p***y up like Emmett Till,” he rapped on Future’s Karate Chop remix. The rapper has since apologized for the cringe-worthy lyrics that sent him deep into the Black community’s bad side, but you still have to wonder how the Young Money mogul thought the lyric was acceptable in the first place.
LL Cool J
When rapper LL Cool J agreed to be a part of country singer Brad Paisley’s Accidental Racist, he also accidentally had the Black community shaking their heads in disbelief. The song tried to explain why a white man from the South wearing a confederate flag shirt isn’t racist – the point didn’t quite come across. Anyway, it seemed like LL Cool J was featured on the song as a safety net against any claims of the song being racist and the rapper was happy to oblige.
