Will Smith
Will Smith is a well-known rapper and actor, emerging in the 1980s with his music and later starring in his own sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, in the 1990s. He continued to rise to fame with movies such as Men in Black (1997) and Independence Day (1996). He has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards and has won four Grammy Awards.
In 1989, Smith was involved in an incident in Philadelphia that left record promoter William Hendricks nearly blind, according to Philadelphia Police Department reports. The incident occurred days after Smith won his first Grammy Award with DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Smith was charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, simple assault and criminal conspiracy. The charges were eventually dismissed, but Smith spent one night in a West Philadelphia jail. He has maintained that Hendricks was assaulted by another man while he was present.
