Greg Oden, the former No. 1 NBA draft pick who has battled injuries throughout his career, was arrested and charged with battery after punching his former girlfriend in the face during a fight.
The 7-foot-1 Oden, 26, was apprehended at his mother’s home in Lawrence, Indiana. An affidavit says a witness told police Oden punched her hard enough to draw blood.
The free-agent center who played last season for the Miami Heat was charged Monday with felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury, misdemeanor domestic battery and misdemeanor battery resulting in serious bodily injury.
Oden has been a wash-out as an NBA player after he was drafted with the first selection by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2007, as leg injuries have severely limited his playing time.
